With mobile data subscriptions growing at 1000% per annum and 3G mobile broadband data traffic already exceeding voice, mobile backhaul networks have come under increasing strain. They are also being subjected to much greater financial scrutiny and since backhaul transmission already takes up around 30% of CAPEX and OPEX, strong measures are required to offset these rapidly increasing costs as data volumes continue to grow.

At the same time, mobile providers also have a much wider range of technical options for providing backhaul capacity. Service provider planning teams therefore face a much more complex and dynamic design task as they assess the benefits of differing approaches, such as local availability, price and latency, when determining the best transmission paths for each cellsite. In this session, find out how operators can tackle this problem and what management tools are required to ensure best practice when selecting the optimal choice of backhaul route for tens of thousands of links and to get that selection right each time every time.
